In all my years training, one thing that can be blatantly missing from any lifters arsenal, is the ability to psyche ones self's up. You watch people and many of them are putting on the pre lift act, which they have copied off other lifters.
Most of the time this act ends in a failed lift or no lift at all. When you see a true master in the ability to psyche ones self up, it can be quite an experience watching their movements change, their rate of breathing increase or diminish, and the glazed eyes look which shows they have truly left their body, moved forward in time, achieved the lift, and then suddenly voom, return back to their body and have achieved the lift as they have seen it done in their own mind.
The ability to psyche up like a master takes years of practice, and some people are totally unable to do this. For a long time I have tried to install this into lifters, that they must practice the psyching up just as much as the lifting. Upon chance, I met an old friend Emma James, who is herself a world champion power lifter. I discovered she was working within the psychological side of medicine, and discussed the possibilities of putting together a psychological training course which would increase a lifters ability to psyche ones self up, and this is what we come up with.
